Bitcoin Processor Bitpay Secures $30 Million in Series A Funding.
The world leader in business solution for Bitcoin digital currency,BitPay has recently announced a Series A funding round of $30 million, led by Index Ventures, With participation from Horizons Ventures, Founders Fund, Felicis Ventures, RRE Ventures, TTV Capital, Sir Richard Branson, and AME Cloud Ventures.
With a total investment gather by over $32.7 Million , BitPay has manage to raise more venture funding than any other bitcoin startup. This crowdfunding round includes a powerful venture capital from London, Genvea, New York, San Francisco and Hong Kong. Jan Hammer from Index Ventures shall be joining BitPay’s Board of Directors, along with Mr.Jimmy Furland who represents the original investor group.
BitPay processes over $1 million per day in bitcoin payments for over 30,000 merchants, 50% oh whom are based within the U.S. with over 30% in Europe and 20% across the rest of the world. Its customer have included WordPress, TigerDirect and Shopify. Sir Richard Branson’s commercial space travel company Virgin Galactic also uses BitPay to accept payments in bitcoin. In addition to BitPay’s main merchant acquiring products, the company has also currently developing open source projects around Bitcoin such as Bitcore, Insights, and Copay.
The company has planned to use this recent investment to expand internationally and create around 70 jobs, mainly software developers. This will lead towards the company workforce to triple across its teams in Atlanta, San Francisco, Buenos Aires, and Amsterdam. Mr. Stephen Pair has also moved to the position of CEO and Mr. Tony Gallippi is currently Executive Chairman, creating and opening for additional executive level positions and ensuring that developers well representing among the company’s leadership.
