Sleep Startup Casper Launches Its Universally Comfortable Mattress.
A company re-imagining the sleep experience, known Casper has launched its first mattress, which is currently available for purchase at their main site. With its focus on the product engineering and sleek, design, Casper sold its beds directly to consumers at the rate of third of what it would normally cost in a store.
The company’s relaxed openness around its manufacturing and sales process is a clean cut within the $13 billion mattress industry. With just a single construction, Casper has demonstrated a clear opposition to mattress retailers’ rampant opacity that creates a comparison shopping nearly impossible. Consumers can receive a compactly-packed Casper mattress right into their door through the same day shipping. Casper will also be offer a 40-day trial period for people to enjoy their unique sleep experience.
“The industry is bloated with sales commissions, excess SKU creation, and retail rip-offs,” says Philip Krim, CEO of Casper. “We wanted to change that by selling one perfectly designed mattress directly to consumers. You can’t choose the right bed by lying down in a crowded showroom with a salesperson hovering overhead. Casper offers an extended home trial, with free shipping and returns. Sleep is more than a necessity; it’s a means to achieve greater productivity and creativity during daily life. There is a real chance for our generation to rethink how we invest in that third of our lives spent in bed.”
Casper goes on to create mattresses with two unites of sleeping technologies, thank to its award-winning engineers from IDEO and Muji, with the use of latex foam and memory foam. The proprietary construction contours around the body in order to provide 10-inches of support, while remained soft, cool, and bouncy to the touch.
“We saw an opportunity to enhance the support and comfort of a premium memory foam bed, while removing the big complaints, like sleeping hot or feeling stuck,” said Jeff Chapin, co-founder and Head of Product.
As of Now, Casper has successfully raised over $1.85 million in financial funding led by Lerer Ventures, along with further investments from Norwest Venture Partners, Crosslink Capital, Vaizra Investments, Correlation Ventures, Queensbridge Ventures, Cap-Meridian Ventures, Wilson Sonsini, and angel investors.
